Super Mario World

Super Mario World is 2D platforming perfection. Takashi Tezuka and Shigeru Miyamoto created a world with 96 exits — levels with secret paths revealing hidden trails on the map. Yoshi, the rideable dinosaur, could eat enemies and gain powers from colored Koopa shells. Cape Mario allowed free flight, transforming levels into three-dimensional playgrounds. Dinosaur Land was alive and interconnected: every discovery changed the world map. It's the definitive 2D platformer, never truly surpassed.
