Haunted House

Haunted House is considered by many history's first survival horror — 14 years before Resident Evil. Your character was represented only by two glowing eyes in a completely dark mansion. You lit matches to briefly illuminate the surrounding area, revealing monsters, bats, ghosts and items. Three floors plus a basement, colored keys for locked doors, and the spirit urn to find and bring back to the exit. The darkness wasn't a technical limitation: it was a brilliant design choice that with 128 bytes of RAM created more terror than any 3D-rendered monster.
