Combat was the pack-in game with every Atari 2600 at launch — and for millions it was the first video game they ever played. 27 combat variants with tanks, biplanes and jets in two-player split-screen. Simplicity was its genius: two joysticks, two fire buttons, and a challenge that never aged. Bouncing walls in advanced variants created unpredictable geometries. No single-player mode — Combat was a pure social game, designed for siblings, friends, parents. History's first 'party game.'
