The Story
Breakout has an anecdote worth more than the game itself: the arcade version was designed by a young Steve Jobs, who subcontracted the work to his friend Steve Wozniak โ who completed it in four sleepless nights. Jobs pocketed most of the payment. Years later, Wozniak discovered the deception. The concept โ breaking rows of colored bricks with a bouncing ball โ was simple and hypnotic. The 2600 version used paddle controllers and created a quiet addiction: 'one more game' was the mantra keeping millions of players awake.
