Super Mario Kart

Super Mario Kart invented an entire genre. The SNES Mode 7 created the illusion of 3D circuits where eight Mario characters raced throwing bananas, shells and stars. Two-player split-screen was the reason you went to your friend's house after school. Battle Mode in closed arenas, with three balloons to pop, was competition in its purest form. Rainbow Road, the final circuit, was the ultimate test of skill and composure. The franchise has sold over 165 million total copies, all born from a Mode 7 experiment.
