The Story

Submarine transformed the Odyssey into a naval battlefield. The overlay showed an ocean with islands, ports and shipping routes. One player controlled a submarine, the other a surface ship, and movements were partially hidden โ€” the submarine could 'dive' (player moved their indicator without the opponent seeing). Mine cards added hidden traps to the map. It was the Odyssey game closest to a strategic wargame, proving video games could be vehicles for complex tactical experiences, not just reflex games. The 'fog of war' โ€” not knowing the opponent's position โ€” is a concept strategic games still use today.
