The Story
Roulette brought the casino into the living room โ history's first virtual gambling game. The overlay showed the roulette wheel and green table with numbers. The ball (white square) bounced on screen and its resting position determined the winning number. Players bet with included play money โ cardboard chips and Monopoly-like bills. Magnavox deliberately included games like Roulette and companion States to attract adult audiences: the Odyssey wasn't a children's toy, it was a family entertainment system. The virtual casino concept would explode decades later with online gaming.
