Rocket Knight Adventures

Rocket Knight Adventures is the Mega Drive's hidden diamond — a game deserving mascot status but arriving when console wars were already decided. Sparkster, a knight possum with jetpack, traversed levels constantly shifting genres: traditional platforming, free-flight with jetpack, horizontal and vertical shmup sections, vehicle chases. The charged jetpack allowed eight-direction dashes, turning every room into a trajectory puzzle. Konami at its creative and technical peak: graphics exploited every Mega Drive trick, bosses were enormous and inventive, pacing never dropped. A masterpiece deserving rediscovery.
