Beyond Oasis

Beyond Oasis (The Story of Thor in Europe/Japan) was Sega's flagship action-RPG — the Zelda response Mega Drive deserved. Prince Ali summoned four elemental spirits (fire, water, shadow, plant) using a golden armlet, each with unique combat and puzzle abilities. Hand-to-hand combat was surprisingly deep with combos, counters, throws and special attacks — closer to a fighter than traditional RPG. Yuzo Koshiro composed a fully orchestral OST after Streets of Rage's techno, demonstrating his versatility. Animated graphics with enormous, detailed sprites were among the console's finest.
