The Story

Dynamite Headdy is the platformer Treasure created alongside Gunstar Heroes, sharing the same philosophy: every level is an invention, every boss a spectacle. Headdy was a puppet in a theatrical world who launched and replaced his own head with 16 different types โ€” vacuum head, hammer head, shrinking head, flying head. The theatrical setting wasn't just aesthetic: backdrops moved like stage curtains, enemies hung from visible strings, spotlights illuminated the action. Bosses were enormous and creative โ€” Twin Puppet, Dark Demon, the Ballerina Doll. The Japanese version differed significantly from the Western release: modified dialogue, rebalanced difficulty, and a secret points system completely removed in the West. A game deserving rediscovery as much as Gunstar Heroes.
