Major League Baseball on Intellivision was the first sports game to look like a TV broadcast. The overhead view showed the entire diamond with unthinkable detail: players ran between bases with fluid animations, the pitcher could vary pitch types, and fielders moved independently. Compared to the Atari version — where players were indistinguishable pixels — it was like comparing a photo with a scribble. The 16-direction disc allowed directing pitches with precision impossible with Atari's 8-direction joystick.
