Pokémon Yellow

Pokémon Yellow was every anime fan's dream made game: Pikachu followed you outside the Poké Ball expressing different emotions based on happiness level — turning and smiling when happy, frowning when sad. All three original starters (Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle) were obtainable during the adventure, exactly like the anime. Team Rocket's Jessie and James appeared as recurring bosses. The Pikachu interaction — turning to talk and seeing its expression — remains one of portable gaming history's most tender moments.
