Resident Evil 2 took everything that worked in the first game and amplified it. Two protagonists — Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield — with intertwining campaigns: actions in campaign A affected campaign B. Zombie-devastated Raccoon City was a navigable nightmare. Resource management — limited bullets, rare healing herbs — created constant tension. The 'zapping' system with two CDs was ambitious and rewarded replayability. The 2019 remake confirmed the original design's greatness.
