Haunted House

Haunted House is the Odyssey's most ambitious title and history's first 'horror' game. The overlay showed a haunted house with numbered rooms. Players explored seeking hidden treasures but risked encountering ghosts. Message cards (included in the box) contained clues and traps — drawn when entering certain rooms. Dice determined encounter outcomes. It was a genius hybrid of video game and board game anticipating role-playing games and text adventures. The concept of exploring a dangerous location with random events is the seed from which Resident Evil, Silent Hill and the entire horror genre germinated.
