The Story
Final Fantasy VII is PlayStation's most important game. Square left Nintendo for CD-ROM, and the result was an RPG with cinematic cutscenes, explorable 3D world and a story that marked a generation. Aerith's death at the Temple of the Ancients is gaming history's most cited moment. Cloud, Sephiroth, the Materia system: everything became iconic. It sold over 14 million copies and brought JRPGs to mainstream Western audiences.
