The Story

ToeJam & Earl is the most 'Sega' game ever โ€” in terms of attitude, originality and total absence of rules. Two rapper aliens stranded on Earth wandered procedurally generated levels searching for ship parts, avoiding bizarre earthlings (dentists, shopping cart ladies, devils) and opening random presents that could help or sabotage. Split-screen co-op was the experience's heart. John Baker's funk soundtrack was years ahead of contemporary gaming. Nothing in video game history resembles ToeJam & Earl โ€” not even its own sequels captured the same anarchic magic.
